Institution: Jan Gan Man English Secondary School
Date of Event: June 5, 2026
Theme Alignment: “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”
Jan Gan Man English Secondary School observed World Environment Day to mark the commencement of its green initiatives for the Academic Year 2026-27. In alignment with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) global campaign, #NowForClimate, the event successfully brought together students, faculty, and parents. The primary objective was to establish a professional, institutional baseline for sustainable practices while engaging the entire school community in long-term ecological responsibility.
The school has structured its environmental roadmap around three institutional pillars:
Community Integration: Aligning curriculum learning with active parental and community participation.
Infrastructure Optimization: Actively reducing the school's carbon footprint through waste management and energy literacy.
Environmental Stewardship: Cultivating a climate-conscious mindset among students to prepare them for future global challenges.
The event served as the launchpad for three core operational shifts within the school campus:
| Green Initiative | Scope of Action | Primary Target Group |
| Project Zero-Plastic | Complete ban on single-use plastics under 15 microns in the school canteen and classrooms. | Students & Staff |
| Eco-Shed Segregation | Introduction of a three-tier waste management system (Organic, Recyclable, Electronic). | Faculty & Support Staff |
| Parent-Student Green Guild | A collaborative weekend tree-planting and urban farming network within the school periphery. | Parents & Students |
The day progressed through structured segments designed to ensure high engagement without disrupting academic professionalism:
The Climate Symposium: Student leaders from the Secondary Section presented data-driven insights on local climate resilience and nature-based solutions, replacing traditional generic speeches with actionable research.
The Green Pledge: A formal declaration signed by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) executives, committing to support the school's transition toward low-emission transport alternatives for student commuting.
The Innovation Exhibition: A showcase of student-designed prototypes focusing on clean energy models, rainwater harvesting, and smart water-management systems for the campus.
Institutional Commitment:
"Sustainability is no longer an elective subject; it is an organizational blueprint. Through these initiatives, Jan Gan Man English Secondary School aims to reduce its overall campus waste output by 30% by the end of the academic year."
